 THE PROGRAMME

Throughout 2010 University of the Arts London is focusing attention on the practice of sculpture. Developing a programme to take place over the course of the year Shaping Sculpture aims to critically engage in the production and medium of sculpture as it exists today. Through an interrelated series of publications, exhibitions, artist discussions, and conferences Shaping Sculpture is an examination into the act of making aimed at revealing new methods of supporting current and future artistic practice.

There have always been significant and continuous changes in the making processes surrounding sculpture, developments that react to and influence the technological and contextual evolution of the medium. The enormous accessibility of materials, their potential for fabrication and implementation, has influenced a vast variety of ways in which sculpture is being produced and represented. Shaping Sculpture is a reaction to the need for a dedicated reaction to the medium and the processes of making that are defining contemporary and future artistic practice.
